Laura - I don't know if this will help, you have to remember that I just have a small ig myself and have never owned an adult yet. However, when checking out sites I have run across this information for biting baby igs. I used the same technique in all my birds when they were little and it sure works for them.
Do not jump or pull away. Whatever your doing, like petting, do it more and don't let up. Let the ig know that biting doesn't stop whatever activity your doing, in fact it increases it. Continue to talk to Guapi in a pleasant voice. In fact when training by baby birds, a long time ago, I wouldn't let anyone touch them that might pull away or jump. All that would teach them was that they had the upper hand. I have one adult bird I used this on. Believe me that was painful, but I have been the only one through 18 years that can handle him. Everyone else is now afraid of him.
I also read that with an adult ig, you say no in a tough voice and do a time out, somewhere he/she doesn't want to be. Don't know anything about this.
Well if I'm wrong or others have a different method I would like to hear it also. Sneakers will sometimes open her mouth at me and bring down the dewlap. When she does this I just keep on talking to her and pet the dewlap and the top of her head. She closes her mouth and looks at me like, "Well...that didn't work." LOL
By the way, nice to hear the happy ending to Guapi's black lumps. I know you have been worried about them.
iggles, Joan (iggles is tootles in ig)
