I agree with your assumption. It sounds like he is being territorial. But Mr.D is right, you shouldn't house 2 iguanas together, especially a male and a female. Housing 2 igs in the same cage is just not a good idea. They will get competitive with each other and territorial and when your male reaches sexual maturity, he will be very aggressive with your female and could possibly injure her. Igs need their own space.
