OK... first off, the reptile carpet is really expensive and you would probably do better finding a suitable substitute at the hardware store (believe it or not, most herp keepers I know get more supplies at Home Depot than Petco...).

That said, as far as I know Kale is ok in small amounts but should not be a staple. My ig, Phil is 8 months old and has a 3x2x3 home that he spends a few hours out of every day. He will outgrow this within the year, and when he's large enough he will be a free-roamer but will sleep in the cage at night. A 30 gallon long would only be a temporary setup at best. If you add branches and wood, be sure they are treated for parasites.

If you put a water dish large enough for him to soak in, chances are he will poop in it instead. Phil does this and it actually works out quite well for us because he's on the way to becoming 'litter trained.' The only downside is I have to clean the water thing 2-3 times a day. Also, bathing is a good way to maintain hydration. Hope that helps,
