part of that is a necessary survival technique ~ in the wild, little igs are considered "snack food" for just about *everything* ~ so until you earn his trust, he's worried you're gonna eat him ... and ... compared to you, he's awfully little! :)

time + patience are key ...
try really hard to set a routine/schedule so that you are doing the same things at the same times every day ... that will help him relax a bit cuz he'll "know" what to expect + when ...
example ~ breakfast salad served at Xo'clock but all you do is put his plate in there, you don't reach for him ...
he'll learn that there's times that your scary hand is going to be really close "BUT nothing "bad" happens ~ in fact! that scary hand brought really nummy food!!!!"

another thing that'll help is if his enclosure is *UP* so that he can be at or *above* your eye level ... that's a safety thing, the higher up in the tree you are, the less likely you're gonna be a snack ... it'll help him calm down a bit during the day + maybe come out + explore more instead of hiding under things ...
