: Laura...Mites are bad news! Did your vet recommend disinfecting everything..substrate, wood (basking branches) cage/or tank? If not than your mite problem will persist. I have two snakes also and when even 1 mite is suspect
: I go through weeks of continual sterilizing.Mites can kill a snake ...they get up under the scales & create havoc..jeopardizing their health. I use Nix..in a spray bottle to rid my snakes of mites, Q-tip dipped around the eyes, also disinfect everything with bleach & water solution. Serious stuff here Laura...they travel & breed like wildfire, hiding in the most obsure crevices. Is the sky falling yet? Not meaning to freak you out but..have heard of MANY snakes dying from IBD transmitted by mites. Nothing yet on transmission of diseases mites to iguanas tho, maybe its cuz they have tougher skin!
: Good luck...let us know how its going.
: Gina, Juana the Iguana, & Feo the Stud Dragon of Venice
Gina, Juana & Feo- Thanks for your response and concern! The vet did tell me to take everything out and disinfect..She actually suggested that I bake his climbing log in the oven and then seal it with a water-based polyurethane sealant. She will be coming back every two weeks to check on his progress. Thanks for your mite ridding tips and I'll let you know how the situation progresses. I think it's cute that your Stud Dragon's name is Feo...Guapi is actually a nickname for El Guapo! Do you have any pictures of your babies posted on the web?
