: What would be a good substrate for them? My young rescues currently are on a mix of sand and wood chips, but what would be ideal for them taken humidity in consideration?

NO SAND ! NO WOOD CHIPS ! These thing can cause an impaction and this will KILL the iguana .Use paper old towels or a smooth floor like linoleum .

: These adults have rather big claws (they have never been trimmed). Now I don't care the claws but do they need clipping for their own sake or is it like cats that the scrape them of on the trees in the cage?

Yes there claws need to be trimmed . If you do not they are much more likely to break toes . They are easy to trim just do not cut the quick . keep some baking soda on have if you do . Most vets will trim nails for a few bucks .

: What kind of cage furniture is wise to use? Offcourse branches of appropriate size and numbers are required,

Make sure the branches are clean and free of bugs .

: a water dish and lights (duh).

What kind of lights ? You need UVB light and a heat light .

: But to make the cage more attractive to the eye I was wondering if you guys (M/F) had ideas?

Whatever you like to use as long as they cant eat it .

Live plants will be eaten so that's not reallyt an option,

Many people use live plants . Yes they will eat them but hey they seem to enjoy it . Just be sure the plant you use is safe for them to eat .

:as will in hose trees suufer to much from these animals to prosper.

Trees can also be used if you want . Yes it is work but it can be done . With trees to you must be sure they are safe to ingest ,

Cork pannels will be demolished within an eye blink,

True plus they can eat the cork and this can cause an impaction .

so plastic plants will be hard to use...

Plastic plants are GREAT . Just make sure they do not have wire in them the wire can stick out and cause all kinds of problems . Poked eye scratches and such .
