hey i'm too busy beating MYSELF up tonite to pick on you! *weak grin*

torn out nails happen ~ iZ has also lost nails before, pretty much the same way your ig has ... :(

most of the time, the toe will heal and the nail will grow back and all will be fine ...

but, since he's been thru some *major* trauma with his tail *and* the nails, i'd take him in and have an ig-vet tell you he's fine ... :)

(i'm the extremely paranoid type when it comes to infections ... not that it helped me much since iZ was just in the "ER" with a systemic infection ...)

oops, i digress ...

what'll help prevent losing a nail in the future is to make sure you keep his nails trimmed ~ most especially that sharp little needle-point at the end ~ that's what gets caught in carpet fibers, etc ...

sorry, i'm rambling ~ it's been a @)*$#(* day and i *should* be in bed ...

igs don't have the same kind of pus that mammals do and like all animals, igs are VERY good at *hiding* the fact that they have an infection ...
personally, i'd rather go to the vet + pay the $40 to have him tell me the ig is fine than risk it ...

good luck, welcome to the forum, and let us know it turns out ok?

Bon. + iZ
