to seal the wood as the majority of stock lumber is one form of pine or another which can be toxic to reptiles. And you might want to re-consider 3 sides worth of hardware cloth if you live anywhere but the deep south. Reason being that heat and humidity will most likely be rather difficult to control in an open air cage. Consider 3 sides, top and bottom plywood and plexi/acrylic/lexan doors with controlled ventilation, heat and humidity.
