The MAIN reason why you should not house them together comes down to this -Water Dragons eat insects as a main part of their diet, iguanas do not. Unless the water dragon is fed at another location, the iguana will have access to the insects and that is not a good idea.Aside from that -yes, their habitats are remarkably similar! Yes, they both enjoy a large pan of water, deep enough to submerge. YEs, they both require UVB, heat and humidity.
HOWEVER all of these things aside you still need to take into account the size of the animals in question, their growth rate and the fact that eventually you are going to end up with a alpha that will most likely take the good basking spots from him/herself, will have first choice of food, etc.
State law prohibits a pet store from mixing species BECAUSE even while the state may have no real reptile knowledge, they are smart enough to know that mixing species can be difficult at best.
