We flat out do NOT use any lights what so ever on our iguanas at night. If they're supplied with the proper lighting during a 10 to 12 hour period during the day AND have the proper diet, there should be no reason even to consider lighting at night.
X-rays and blood work tells more than opinions....if in doubt, have them done, then adjust accordingly....diet or lighting during the day.
Some of the main things I find with poor iguana care is:
1. Lighting: either it's the wrong type, it's too old (5 to 6 months max.)(tube type) or it's too far away from the iguana
2. Extremely poor diet: use of dry food and powder additives as main diet with treats given which are not recommended for iguanas.
3. Heat: No where near the temps required for a healthy iguana ( many owners using hot rocks instead of basking lights )
If you add all three of them together at the same time......you have one sick iguana! A black light isn't going to solve the problem....it's a much larger problem.....it's called poor husbandry!
Just my opinion!
