my iguana hides all day...

I have had my iguana for about 5 weeks now, and all he does all day is hide. He will come down and eat and move around but only when no one is in the room. And if someone walks by his cage while he is out, he goes back into hiding. He is putting on weight and looks healthy but he just seems anti-social. Is there anything I can do to get him to come out and bask under his heat light or move around more. Some days he doesn't move anywhere. Yesterday I had the day off. So I was home all day and could watch him and he didn't go down and eat or move around at all.
