you'd get over the rodent thing, really you would. Keep thinking "food chain, food chain, food chain". LOL I have Argentine B/W's, Blues, Blues het for albino, and Red Tegus. I'd recommend an Argentine or a Red. When purchased as a young animal Tegus tame down very quickly and easily....even adults can tame in a few months to the point where they are handleable. You can vary their diet with the SDZ diet, cooked chicken or turkey, eggs, good quality canned cat food on an occasionaly basis, but the majority of the diet should consist of whole rodents when the Tegus are adults.
I'm really not trying to discourage you from getting an Iguana. As someone who does rescue I'd be happy to find some people like you wanting to adopt. Honestly tho, Tegus are easier to keep, less time consuming, much easier to house and feed...and can make awesome pets!! Let me know what you finally decide on. :)
