: I never used timers as my late husband used to turn on all the lights before he left for work and he fed the iguanas when he came home at lunch. Tom passed away January 30. I leave at 5:30 to get a bus to the Navy base. The iguanas looked at me like I had a brain tumor too. Today, I took off to stop by the social security office to see if I can get my daughter some funds until she graduates from high school. I slept in which is probably the best thing to do while adjusting to being a widow and getting used to receiving two doctor bills a day. The iguanas are all up and looking at me like I have flipped.

: I heard at Christmas that there was a recall on one timer. Do timers use alot of current? Do I need another wall socket? I am timer impaired, but with four angry and confused iguanas, this is probably the best thing till we can get back into some kind of routine.

Samcin: First of all, please accept my condolences on the loss of your husband. It must be very difficult for you right now.

As far as timers go, you can use one of two kinds. The regular ones (cheapies from K-mart of Walmart) or the 24 hr. ones (a little more expensive). The regular ones are also 24 hr. timers, but you can only set them to go on once and off once during a 24-hr. period. The ones that have little on/offs for each hour allow you to set on and off several times a day. All depends on what you want.

Right now I'm using an adapter (one of those plugs that lets one plug become three) in the timer and I have my ig's lights hooked up when I go away overnight. I haven't had problems with them at all. I keep candles in my windows (electric) and they are ALL set on timers and have been for years. When your timer starts making a faint grinding sound, it's time for a new one. I don't think they use any electricity other than when they're on.

They run about 5.00 for the "garden variety brand".

Again, I'm sorry about your loss and I hope this info helps.
