: Columbus is finally in his new cage. Its huge and we've decorated it with various plants. The only problem he keeps jumping towards the window. He doesnt hit it very hard, but there is about a 6 foot drop below him. He usually catches himself on a rope or plant, but often he hits the floor. Is this really dangerous and will he 'learn' not to do it eventually? Otherwise, are there any nicelooking ideas that I can use to prevent him from doing this. Not nice looking ideas are also appreciated but I'd prefer the better ones first.
: Thanks
Vicky: In the beginning, my ig loved windows and mirrors. As he entered "adulthood", we weren't aware (at first) how dangerous they could be.
One night, my husband said Max was making a lot of noise upstairs. I went up and found he was throwing himself from the bed into the mirror. His nose was all bloody.
During the day he sits and looks out the window. When it's dark, he can see the other iguana in the glass. Well, I forgot to pull the shade and he smashed into that window so bad until I got home that he scraped a big piece of his head bloody and his nose was all smashed in again (his "lips" don't quite meet right now). The window was a bloody mess, too. So.......now, the mirror is covered, the shade goes down every afternoon and I covered his piece of plexiglass (to keep him in the room) with contact paper. His scales scabbed up and lifted off and his nose is healing nicely (thank goodness for anbiotic ointment). If they can see glass or a mirror from their cage, they can also hurt themselves trying to get thru the glass or bars to that other iguana.
