I've worked out what I can do, I'm going to move the light slightly forward in the cage because its just hanging above a plank. This way the most heat will be sent below the plank and the spot will be cooler. (He's not yet in the cage so I can fiddle about a bit)

With the waterbowl, I reckon it is around 70deg. I'll have to check though. I can hang the light lower but I'm scared he'll try to jump onto it or something.
