Plexiglass question....plus aging question

I am drawing up specs for a new cage for my ig, and had a question regarding the plexiglass I want to use. The hardware store near me sells 1/8th inch plexiglass, and I was wondering if that would be thick enough? I don't want it to break if Jupiter smacks her (or his) tail against it.
Also, are there any ways to age an Ig? Are there certain physical characteristics that occur at certain ages? I rescued mine and have been trying to find out about how old it is. I am also having trouble sexing it as I do not know the age.
It is about 12" SVL with an 18" (roughly)tail. It has spikes on it's nucchal crest, and I can see the femoral pores easily, but i don't know what a males and females pores would look like for an ig as old as however old mine is.
