Ig Tail problem

repost, hope to get some more input this time...
Tail Problem...
My 5 year old ig has a problem on her tail.
It appears as if about 1 inch of spikes, about half way down the tail have died...
they are white in color (on a black band) and brittle...
the scales surrounding the spikes are tweaked a little, but color seems ok. This seems like a deterioration of the tail that is going down into the scales about 1/8"
otherwise the rest of tail (and spikes) looks perfectly healthy, except for this one inch half way down the tail..
(I applied some Hydrogen Peroxide, got a little fizz)
Any thought comments, suggestions would be appreciated.
