In Reply to: Okay so WHY an Iguana??? A survey of sorts posted by Christy on January 26, 2002 at 09:25:02:
I am not sure I can explain WHY. It would be an understatement to say I am an animal lover... And I have ALWAYS loved reptiles. I have always surrounded myself with a zoo of sorts. Right now, I have horses, goats, a cat, a dog, a painted turtle, a veiled chameleon, and of course an iguana. The only thing holding me back form more animals is a lack of time to care for them! I really pride myself in providing the best care possible for my "kids", anymore and that quality might suffer... Why an iguana? Like I said, I have always loved reptiles, I don't know why. I was the only little girl I knew in grade school that was in the creek after school searching for garter snakes. And when I visited my Grandparents in Florida each summer, I would come home with dozens of brown anoles. Iguanas were just a natural progression of this love. Non-reptile people find it hard to believe that the reptiles keep me about as busy as the "farm" animals do on a daily basis. (Not counting stall cleaning day!) But it's true. They also find it hard to believe that an iguan can have a personality, but of course they do. JJ is my third iguana, and as different from the other two as you could imagine. No, they're not cuddly per se,(although I just learned JJ likes to sit on my lap wrapped in a towel after her shower!) but no one will convince me that they don't enjoy human interaction. Yes, they are alot of work, and even more money, but if I had more time and money to invest in more, I would. I can't explain it, but I can't get enough of it.
