O've always gotten my iguanas though rescue style, and they are usually mean, What I do to help them calm and usually only takes a couple of weeks is trimming the nails right away so they do not hurt and then keeping them in as a big a cage as possible. But the main thing I can suggest is the most variety diet possible. I think it was on iguanaden.com that he suggests sometimes they are also mean because the diet lacks something, so what do you do feed them basically anything thats a vegetable, short of lettuce. It has always worked for me. I've owned at least 15 iguanas, all but one were a free rescue, and I have only been bitten once, and that was my fault. I hope this helps
