A vet check is definitely in order. Where/how did you come to have this iguana? Injuries such as the ones you describe aren't usually commomplace in petstore lizards - at least not all at once. They're more for abuse/rescued igs. If the tail is turning black it very well could be a sign of dry gangrene. We recently removed a hatchling iguana from a local PetCompany that lost a hand to dry gangrene/human negligence. When the ig was picked up for examination of the black hand the hand literally fell off onto the floor. If the condition exists in yours you may not have to worry about the iguana growing at all as it could very well end up dead within the next 30 days if the infection goes untreated. The toes could be part of the same issue. If the infection is stopped now there is a good chance that the ig will be able to continue to grow to some extent.

The book Dara spoke of is written by James Hatfield - Green Iguana: The Ultimate Owner's Manual is the title I believe (I can never remember it for some reason). Bloodwork may be in order as well as an exam. If you don't have a qualified herp vet in your area try looking at www.arav.org under the "members" section.

Good luck....
