First of all - Take the iguana to the vet to have it checked out. ANY new Iguana that you recieve/buy/get whatever...should be taken to the vet first off to make sure nothing is wrong. ESPECIALLY if the end of the tail is black, it could be a sign that more is to rott of in the future.

Also, the vet can help explain the do's and don't's of iguana parantage. Normally vet visits are only about 20 dollars (for me).

There are many websites on the net (Mr.D's is one of them) That have great info and can help you start to learn how to care for this iguana.

Thirdly, buy a manual of somekind (The Giant Green Iguana Manual) that will also provide a 3rd source of information for you.

Iguana's are herbavores, and should be fed fresh mustard/turnip/collard greens (about 70 percent) and veggies such as green beens, sweet potato, butternut squash, and a little bit of fruit such as strawberries and rasberries. Make sure you read up on which foods NOT to feed them, such as lettuce and carrots.

They need high temp basking areas and also very big cages. The cages should also have a high humidity rate, due to the nature of these reptiles.

Where did you get this reptile? Missing toes and a broken tail are signs it's probably not had a very good life, and might be aggressive towards you. Anyways - Take it to the vet first, and everything else will fall in later.
