First of all, it sometimes takes MONTHS to tame an iguana. Most people on the boards will tell you that it took them a LONG time to tame their iguanas.
It took me almost six months to tame mine. You need to have patience. The ig is in a new surrounding and has new people. It doesn't know you won't hurt or kill it, so it's trying to defend itself. Mine always whipped its tail and tried to bite until I got it out. Handle it as much as you can, but be gentle and don't be loud. Make sure it gets enough sleep, good food and is warm. If you don't do that, the ig could be extra stressed and you could have more problems.
I found my iguana LOVES soft things. Maybe you can get a hold of a little soft piece of something (I bought a little baby cover at K-mart for 5.99) and I started picking my iguana up with that. He tried to bite the cover, but eventually started snuggling into it (and still sleeps with it and he's 20 months old). Keep trying and don't give up and forget about him. It will happen for you, but you have to have patience and time.
Good luck........nanci
