questions on handiling my new iggy

i wanted to tame him early.ive had him for about 2 and a half weeks.he is still scared of me when i pic him up or put my hnd in its cage.should i not pic him up tell he gets used to me or what.he wont climb on my habd i have to basicaly chase him down and corner him to get him.some tmes he whips me but i dont let let stop me.i do this every day.he is about 3 months old. m i doing anything wrong.
