: Last night, my mom calls, said she received an email from someone in her addybook, that said they think they may have sent her a virus, how to check for the file name, and then how to delete the file, because virus programs are not picking the virus up. : I told her to please tell me she hadn't followed the directions....but she had. I told her to stop....don't do anything else, and don't email that letter to anyone. : I checked into it on the Norton site...sure enough, it is a HOAX, and the file you end up deleting is a windows command file. **sigh** Mom, like so many others, was so scared her computer would crash, she probably would have deleted anything they told her to.... : Norton addy to read about it is below... : Looks like I'll be spending the day repairing the file mom deleted in her computer....and giving her a more advanced lesson on virus protection and hoaxes.... : Please pass this info along... specially to anyone you know who may not be all that 'up' on internet stuff... : ~ ~ ~ : love2 : ~ ~ ~ : <center><big><b> : **PLEASE NOTE** : I emailed Jeff B. and asked him if I could cross-post this info on many of the forums...and he gave me permission to do so, so the info could be passed along to as many people as possible. : <big><big>
