Of course I understand the concept of "accidents" and they most certainly do not invole ANYTHING dangling over an alligator pit. A captive iguana losing a portion of it's tail to a captive alligator is not an accident, it's NEGLIGENT and depending on the specific rules of the state in which this occured COULD be a prosecutable offense under animal cruelty laws. Reminders of the "real world" are fine. Reminders that there are people out there that shouldn't own anything more than pet rocks happen every day. A captive iguana losing it's tail to a captive alligator when the owner of the animals fully admits that he 1.)knew the location of the ig and 2.)did nothing to remove it from potential harm is absolutely NOT a reminder of the "real world" ESPECIALLY if this incident took place either within sight of "Leo" or within a dwelling that both animals are housed in. If the animals are kept inside a human structure then there is absolutely NO EXCUSE for this "accident".
As far as the rest of my post being out of line - I've currently got a dozen iguanas, two bearded dragons under my roof and half a dozen snakes at my treasurer's home. It's not so much the fact that "Leo" is allowing his iguanas to breed - that's simply poor judgement when you consider the possible level of injury to one or both lizards. But if he wants to cover the vet bills I guess that that is his prerogative.
HOWEVER, when he chooses to SELL, and yes bartering is included in that statement, "surplus" hatchling iguanas to distributors then it most certainly IS my business because there is a decent chance that within two years of those hatchlings being sold they will either be dead or end up coming through MY doors or the doors of another group or individual taking part in iguana rescue and rehabilitation.
By making those sales, "Leo" is contributing to an already overpopulated pet situation for which there is no excuse. When "Leo's" actions could potentially affect MY life and business it is then that I have a legitimate concern.
