igs, like puppies and kittens, just seem to be 'born' with worms until they are treated ... once treated, it *shouldn't* be a problem again ... it's a good idea to have the ig rechecked for worms a month or so after the last dsoe of worm-meds to make sure they are all gone ... (and if you're a worrier like me, again in 6 months)
i know there are over-the-counter wormers, but i'd recommend going to the vet so s/he can prescribe an accurate dosage ... while you're there, also have them screen for other parasites while they're checking for worms ... there are MANY that igs can have and it's not uncommon for an ig to have a couple different ones .... (poor iZ did)
just a word of warning ... for worms, the vet will give you 'Panacur' and it is NOT pleasant ... kinda like some anti-biotics make people nauseous, panacur makes igs feel like $#!t for about a week ... so be extra nice to your 'baby'!
prevention ... wash fresh fruits and vegies well, keep his enclosure CLEAN, if s/he has contact with other igs, make sure THEY are healthy ... there's less chance of your ig getting re-infested if s/he is strictly an inside ig ...
welcome to our ig-family! what's your iggy's name?
