A couple of months ago my boyfriend and I adopted a green iguana that someone brought into the pet shop I work at. She had it for almost a year, feeding it only romaine lettuce, and it was only about 4 inches SVL. The reason she no longer wanted it was because it was "mean." I took it to my reptile vet with a fecal, he said there were no signs of MBD or anything else wrong but it had tape worm. Since that was taken care of he is growing noticeably (6.5 " SVL). (we think it is male)
The question I have is about getting him to at least socialize (I think taming him is out of the question at this point). We have him out all the time but he doesn't seem to be getting any "nicer." He always tries to bite and tail whip. My main concern is with the cat. Apparently at his old home there was an incident with their cat (that is all I know.) He really doesn't like our cat. I'm afraid that when he gets bigger and is allowed to roam that out cat will be in danger. Is there any way to slowly get him use to a cat, atleast being in the same room? My old iguana (who passed on last year) had a wonderful relationship with the cat. He loved her softness and she liked his tail so there was an understanding between them. (I'm not expecting the same relationship just some sort of tolerance.)
Any suggestions would be wonderful, regarding the cat or general socializing tips.
Thanks,
Megan Kispert
