Hello TMom - Occasionally, captive conditions dictate whether or not animals will thrive in reproduction. Although I don't purposely condition the iguanas for the purpose of breeding, when I expect it least, it seems that I walk in and they are engaged in copulation.
I keep two adult pairs of the Green iguanas and believe that both males require socialization, only I cannot keep the males together.
I know the ritual is rather aggressive and can be mildly traumatic, but I am happy to see that the animals I keep feel comfortable in my care and breed successfully.
When the eggs hatch, I sometimes will trade the hatchlings off or sell them via local distributers.
I hope you have been fortunate enough to experience the joy of watching eggs develope and hatch into the little miracles of nature they have become. It is really a gift and should be the ultimate goal of animal keepers of any species. Take care, Leo
