He is handsome!!! Looks like a male... He has great coloration with the orange and green patterns. The first photo looks like he may have a little cyst or something but I'd have to see a photo under his chin. Overall his jaw does not look swollen, but does he have any bumps under his chin or is that photo a strange angle?

He may have nipped you either because he thought you tasted good enough to eat, OR he was thinking about mating with you! (our last male tried to mate with my boyfriend's arm!)

Anyway, good luck and give him a little time to settle in to see if he starts eating greens. (should still get a fecal check at very least...and think about blood work).
