we don't always know the reason why an iguana does what it does.
There are many people on this forum, myself included, who do not advocate putting 2 iguanas in one enclosure -and if someone does have them housed together we tell them to make sure they have a 2nd enclosure ready to go in case they need to be seperated.
You're lucky no major damage was done THIS TIME! You could have had a MAJOR vet bill on your hands. In a setting where iguanas aren't supervised 24/7 -it's better not to house them together. Even still, when housing 2 together, the enclosure needs to be huge with mulitple high basking spots and multiple food dishes to discourage fighting for prime locations.
