It's breeding season...and you have yourself one fiesty male! Keep up what you're doing but if he is acting particularly aggressive-- mouth opening, give him some space...and time to calm down. Trying to handle him at that point would probably only lead to a nasty bite! Well breeding season won't last forever, so he should calm down eventually.
