please help on this matter????

hello to anyone who decides to look at my post!!!!
A friend of mine had to move away and he left his Ig with me, I know it is 2 about 2 years old and I am in the process of learning everything I can about the green guy. The question I have is it seems that this Ig was never handled by a human, I try and whisper to the green fellow while trying to pet him or try and grab him softly but he freaks out by whipping his tail and trying to bite me, he did grab a hold once and I recieved a nice looking paper cut bite on me finger. Is it too late for this fellow to be handled now and is there another method to training it???? Also I would like to know how you can tel it's a boy or a girl????
