Hi everybody!
Haven't been here in awhile, so I thought I'd let you know that we are still breathing!
Today marks the one week aniversary of Gilbert moving in to his new house. I finally finished it, and managed to get it out of the basement :) Here's a clue for all of you cage builders. If you build it in the basement, make sure that the cage will fit through the door, BEFORE you build it! ;-)
I don't have any plans drawn-up. Just kinda pictured it, and started hammering. Bob Vila would be proud. It's 6' tall, 4' wide and 3' deep. It's a 2 story with a finished basement! Ok.. actually it has two shelves, and a tiled floor. I also leaned a couple of branches in the cage for him to climb on. Gilbert went a little nuts when he first moved in. Leaping from wall, to branch, to floor. He even managed to fall, while hanging upsidedown from the ceiling. I can not attest to whether they land on their feet, all I heard was this god-awful SPLAT, and when I went to check on him, he was just standing on the floor, giving me the most hateful look! He was fine. The next day, he was trying to leap from one branch to another and fell in his water pan. I got a worse look that time! (maybe because I was laughing so hard?!?!)
He spends most of his tme on the top shelf, or laying on his rock. I don't know what it is about that rock, but he liked to have a fit, when I didn't move his rock to his new home. It's what I like to call "Nature's Heat Rock" It sits under his basking lamp, and warms up....then Gilbert lays across it, until it cools off. You can almost see the smile on his face, when he's warming his belly. He has been very good about pooping on the tiled floor. I guess he's just a smart guy. He doesn't poop in his water though, but judging by the dampness of the towel his water pan sits on, he's either using it, or hosting some really wild pool parties while I am at work.
He has started eating more lately. When he first moved in, he stopped eating. He ate bits here and there for the first few days, now he's back to pigging out, and banging his food dish on the side of the cage! (beast!)
All in all, he seems happier. He is still a wild-child from time to time, but he looks happier. Maybe because he ca see the TV now?!?! Hmmmmm?
I'll see what I can do about basic cage plans. And as soon as I get the cam fixed, I'll see if I can get a picture or two.
Take care all... I may be lacking in my posts, but I lurk much more often :) (so mind your P's & Q's)
