: I have had a rescued Ig, named "Ig", who I have had nearly a year now. I have been told that Ig is a she, but, also that Ig is a he. How can I tell for sure? Ig has never tried to nest, and sometimes bobs it's head at it's relflection, or when another animal is near by. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance!
Your ig needs to be sexually mature to be sure it's a he or she. A male will have enlarged pores on it's inner thighs, will have a "jowly" look (the big discs on the side of the head -- they can look almost swollen), and sometimes males will get aggressive or leave "sperm plugs" during breeding season. It took me until mine was almost l-l/2 (just last month) to be sure it was a "he".
All iggies bob, so you really can't tell that way.
