That's an interesting question you posed to all of us tonight...

Hmmm...Are iguanas fun?

I wouldn't exactly say that iguanas are FUN to keep, but they are definitely rewarding.

Actually, now that I think about it a bit more, they can be fun... When I take my two on car rides, it's fun to see how they love that. They also get a lot of stares and laughs. We also like to take them on walks outside, with them hitching a ride on our shoulders.

But in the every day sense of the word "fun", I don't think iguanas qualify.

Many of us on this forum have iguans because we rescued them from horrible situations. I never set out to have an iguana, and I wouldn't buy one from the pet store, but the two I have now were both on their way to death when I stepped in and adopted them. So, in a way, it's extremely gratifying and rewarding to know you saved such a beautiful creature as an iguana from certain death.

Iguanas can be enjoyable to feed, watch, and walk and drive with, but they are not really "companion animals", like cats or dogs are. Neither of mine mind me, or are what I would call "mean" in any way, but neither do they love me, cuddle with me, or seek me out for attention, like my cats do, or like dogs do.

The people who keep iguanas, in my opinion, are the type who have a lot of love to give, a lot of patience, and they aren't selfish. It takes A LOT of effort to give these little guys the right life, but they are worth it.

Fun? No, but definitely worth it.

Thanks for making me think tonight, and for pushing me to express my feelings about these wonderful, interesting animals.

I'm glad you are on this forum! I like your attitude, and think you add to our "group".

Diana
