very true. You can get an idea of what is wrong from people's suggestions though. If it is something minor like a lost nail, then why not ask someone on a forum like this one about how to treat it instead of bringing it to the vet and paying extra money? Yes, noone here can diagnose the iguana or any animal themselves. But, if what the person describes sounds serious, or like some strange, possibly serious ailment, then we all tell the person to bring the animal to a reputable reptile veterinarian.
Yes, borrowing money is always an option. If you take responsibility for purchasing the animal then you should take responsibility for all of it's care. BUT, if an unfortunate incident occurs where you are unable to bring the animal to a vet, people come onto a forum in hopes of a solution to find treatment for the animal in a less expensive way, or to find a vet who can treat with a payment plan.
In the end, a vet visit is the best thing you can do. Sometimes it is not an option, that is when people come onto a forum to ask questions. OR sometimes people know not whether it is an incident in which a vet visit is neccessary (like a torn nail). We are all here to help, and give advice, not diagnose. We may advise that the animal can be treated with a simple betadine bath, we may advise that the animal needs a vet visit.
