In Reply to: Question about squash, and food in general. posted by Dara on December 06, 2001 at 10:57:11:
: Okay, i usually use butternut squash for my iggy's salad, but it seems to be out of season, or they just don't want to carry right now..so they do have spaghetti, yellow, and acorn squash, could i subsitute one of these for butternut?
: Okay... i'd also like a link (if anyone has it) on a page that has maybe some veggies listed, sometimes, there's just so many to choose from... =)
: Also.. is persimmon good for iguanas? I saw those not to long ago, and seem to be local.
I think spaghetti squash is okay. In fact, Melissa Kaplan said canned pumpkin is fine in a pinch (or baby food, I would think). They have squash in baby food. Since my ig only eats the squash cooked and mashed, this works for me.
The green and yellow zucchinis aren't that nutritious (I'll use them occasionally).
Some good veggies -- beans, peas, sugar snap peas, parsnips, endive, escarole, collards, mustard greens, dandelion greens, turnip tops.
Stay away from spinach and give members of the cabbage family (brussels sprouts, etc.) only sparingly.
