Broken toe...

Hi, I was just wondering if a broken toe absolutely needs to be amputated? Because Maya has had a broken toe a little bit after I got him. I don't know what happened. Anyway I went to the vet after I got him for fecal exam and general exam. And the vet looked at the toe and said that it was dead (broken) and that nothing could be done. Well the toe is not in the way, it's not loose or nothing, where the claw is it's just turned side ways a little compared to the other toes that are straight. The nail is alive too, because I cut it often and it still grows. Anyway comments or toughts?

p.s For the next check-up, I'm still planning on going to another vet that I found that specializes in reptiles, because also this vet agreed on my diet and told me I could feed tofu and eggs sometimes...I didn't agree with that so next time i'm switching.
