Just to let you know Mr D, you are correct on your thoughts on reasoning for screen blocking UV rays (wavelength and size of holes)

It is the same reason why you do not fry your whole kitchen when you operate a microwave. The glasss door is not what stops the waves, it is the mesh inside.
