Before I started doing iguana "rescue", (I only have two, but they were both cast-offs who would have died if I didnt' take them in) I loved cats.
A few days ago, I rescued two starving feral kittens from a parking lot and I'm trying to tame them and fatten them up and then find them homes.
Recently, they have been in contact with the same areas of the office that Habib and Bobbit inhabit. (Waking on the same carpet, going near and inside of the ig "fort" (we are in the process of building a new indoor cage, but so far, it's an open fort-type thing with no doors yet) I even found one of the kittens inside the ig's poop bin which had been left on the floor so they could use it this afternoon. (There was no poop in it, but it *is* the poop bin and is not completely sanitary.)
Is it possible for an iguana to give salmanella to a cat? I assume it is, since a cold blooded reptile can give it to a human, why not a kitten?
Can someone PLEASE tell me what they know about cross-species contamination and salmanella? I'm worried.
Thanks,
Diana
