Yes they can, depending on the individual ig. Let him settle in for a week or so, and then acquaint him with you by sitting next to him, talking softly to him. Avoid looking directly at him, in case he thinks it's a predatory stare. If he has a favored treat, give him a bit every time you approach him. Here is an article about taming igs:

Actually he sounds pretty mellow for an ig in ownership transition. If he really wanted to whip you hard or bite you, well, uh...(he could).

Is he healthy-looking, with no pronounced lateral folds (from dehydration) and is he eating well yet? Is he pooping yet? Can you post a pic?
