Hi-
I recently have struggled with some of the same questions you are. A local man here in Ontario, CANADA who is "big" and well known in the herp community here, owns a pet store near me. Since I had been to his website, I wanted to check it out.
The conditions were so horrible I got sick and had to leave. Dead animals, sick animals, most lizards there looking like they were on the way to dying from manourisement and dehydration. Snakes had water bowls full of other dead snakes. He also has sold sick animals more than once to people I know of. It was horrible.
Yet to this day the Ontario herp community still thinks this person is a kind, loving, responsible, caring, educated, animal friendly man. And most even wouldn't even believe me if I told.
I struggled to figure out what to do. I wanted to post on every forum I knew about this man, so people wouldn't buy from him but you can't really do that. I wrote letters, only one was answered. Sadly this man still has his FILTHY store and is still pretending to actual care about animals when in fact he only cares about the money in this ever growing hobby.
I don't have any advice for you, I just wanted to reply because my situation was so similar. Hopefully someone might have good ideas for both of us!
