I have a thought...if there were enough support, we could push the legislation to add Iguana iguana to the Lacey Act of 1900 and prohibit further importation into the US from the wild, added as a "potential injurious species" to native fauna. Although they can only live in subtropical climates in the wild and wouldn't apply to most of the U.S. as an "injurious species", this would at least keep pet stocks bred by licensed breeders, deter low-brow pet stores from selling them, and ensure quality care with documentation to prove it...kind of like AKC papers for dogs & cats? I dunno..just a thought...many downsides, of course like possible inbreeding, etc...like I said, just a thought, maybe others have better ideas. Take care all.
If a RESPONSIBLE adult wants any animal bad enough, and can provide a proper home, they will pay for the permits. If they can't afford it, then they can doubtfullly afford to keep an adult iguana healthy.
