is that even after rehabilitating/recycling half a dozen iguanas this year I NOW have 11 GGI's in my home. One missing an eye and part of her face... 4 missing portions of tail....One missing a HAND (this one was surrendered just yesterday by an all too well known Pet retailer Company) due to gangrene. When it was picked up out of the tank it was in the hand literally fell off onto the floor. What I'm angry about is the 9 MORE GGI's waiting to come into my program. 3 of them are currently in school systems being abused there. I'm ANGRY that I've literally turned down 117 MORE GGI's from across the country THIS YEAR ALONE.
As far as my "opinion" carrying any weight in "the iguana circles", to be brutally honest - I don't give a rat's a**. What I DO care about is the fact that these animals are being allowed to die while still in the process of being SOLD nevermind the lack of care they receive once they leave a store. Someone developed and bred a new color of iguana. Terrific. That IS an accomplishment. Are they going to prostitute it and attempt to make money from this little bit of genetic engineering? If they do then I, personally, have no use for them. Until/unless I find out exactly what they do to educate their clientele regarding husbandry. THEN and ONLY THEN could I possibly be impressed with them.
If I want a new "color" of iguana I'll play around with Photoshop or something. Bill and Kathy Love have some amazing "rainbow" corn snakes on their site. That's exactly how I'd want to come up with "new colors". Other than that, it's just another gimmick to kill off a few hundred or thousand iguanas while at the same time making a profit from them.
You want to impress me, Ghi? Donate every last penny made from the sale of these "new" iguanas to developing education programs that will help stop the killing of these animals. If these "color morphs" occurred naturally in the wild THEN I'd be impressed. I'm not impressed with "man made iguanas". Stick to coloring books and crayons.
As far as me not having any "albinos" or other morphs I'm not worried. I'm sure they'll be showing up on my doorstep soon enough.
