That I can definately understand! I work for Canada's largest grocery wholesaler and retailer, and know all about private label products (we invented the idea in grocery afterall - PC pop anyone?) You are correct that a lot of the time, products are specifically developed by the "brand-name" company for the seller. In all instances, we own the recipes and formulae on all private label food products. However, it is also a company producing said product who markets a similar one themselves. You wouldn't hire Goodyear to design and produce Kraft Diner (sorry Mac and Cheese for the Americans) So it is a given that if not identical to the branded product, the private label product is not far off. In the case of lightbulbs, the distinction would be even closer I would think.
Which is part of the reason why I refuse to be duped into purchasing said reptile spcific products when I know that they are the same thing as for home use.
I guarantee that the ActiveUV's exist somewhere, in standard lighting company form (it is just a mercury vapour light afterall - not a new technology), I just have not found them yet.
