: Darwin, my recent addition to the animal family, is still quite thin. He is eating about 3 or 4 large soup-bowls of salad a day. I think this is about 6 to 8 cups of food. Is he eating a normal amount for his size? He is 4 feet long including his tail. I fill his bowl in the morning before I go to work, then as soon as I come home in the evening, and once or twice before bed. If it's empty, I fill it. Do you think he's getting enough and how long will it take for him to fatten up? I can see his ribs a bit and he doesn't have much padding on his tail-base. Are there any foods that I can give him to add extra calories? I am feeding him what's recommended by the Iguana den diet and the MK salad. I just haven't been able to get mustard greens, though. I try for lots of variety, and don't have to worry about stuff going bad, because my guinea pigs eat the extras. Thanks for any ideas and advice.

You can see my iguana's ribs, too. She's on the thinner side (I've been told). She probably eats one small dish of food a day. I give her lots of food and lots of varieties, but that's all she eats. I follow MK's advice on food, too, and give the extra calcium and alfalfa.
My iguana free roams and is VERY active, so I think that might be why she's on the thinner side.
It sounds like yours is getting plenty of food.
According to MK -- an iguana does NOT overeat, so if yours is eating all of that, I guess it's okay.
