The wattage and design of the bulb that you decide on should really be determined by the size and type of the enclosure that JJ is in. Is he in an aquarium tank or custom enclosure? If you like, let us know what size the enclosure is and we can make a guesstimate of the bulb size for you. We are currently running both 100w floods and 160w spots here (total of 6 bulbs). Feel free to check out our site as well as we've thrown some info up there regarding Actives.
As far as JJ's IguanaLight being due for a change, NO... Once you switch over to the Active, unless you have an unusually large enclosure and feel more comfortable running it, there will be no reason to continue to use the fluorescent tubes. The Active bulb replaces the tubes and actually throws up to 5x more UV than a tube does. Take a look at HerpSupplies.com for Actives. We do all of our business with them exclusively. Feel free to drop us a line with any questions as well.
