: Ever since September my (almost) 3 yr old male
iguana has been in his mating season. The coolest
pet in the world now has the nastiest disposition
in the world. I know a lot of it's because I'm a
female of child bearing age. I've gotten stitches
from his attacks & gotten him a hormonal shot, but
the shot had no effect. I've talked to vets & they
say he's an alpha-male and I should consider
getting him neutered. (These are vets recommended
by the area zoos and herp societies) I am not
willing to give him up, but these "episodes" are
not only injuring to me, but also to Squiggy. Does
anyone know the effects of neutering ig's? I would
like to hear some experienced opinions before I
consider this at all. Thanks!
We gave Caesar a taz stuffed animal and they did do the deed often but only with me wiggling the toy until he got ahold of it, then I'd slip out of the room and leave them alone.I guess the taz wasn't good enough because he still got me on my feet(which should have been seen by doc)and would fly thru the air at my boyfriend(strange looking ig)and run him out of a room.He was a loving ig for 4yrs. Maybe we should have noticed that he conquered everything and that might have been a sign of an aggressive male. Once again, good luck,I hope its differently for yours.
