yep, as long as the temp in his enclosure is staying warm enough at nite, he's fine sleeping in his hide-box! (and yep! 82-84 is fine for nite!)
am i understanding right that there's a (human) heating pad underneath his hide-box???
(disclaimer 1st ~ ALWAYS keep it on the LOWEST setting!!!)
then most definitely he is staying warm enough at nite to be comfy AND healthy!
as long as he has the choice to move off the heating pad if he wants, should be fine ... (iZ has always had a heating pad on his bed shelf + he likes it! *grin*)
if at all possible, i'd stay away from using *any* kind of light that'd shine directly on the enclosure at nite ~ just cuz it stands to reason that it's easier to get a good nite's sleep when it's fairly *dark* ... keep in mind that igs DO see colors! "black lights" or red heat lamps ARE visible to them ...
+ as usual, a few unasked for suggestions ... *grin* ... (i can't help it! i'm a compulsive "mom" type person where EVER i go!!!! LOL)
stick a thermometer inside the hide box and find out for sure *what* the temp is ... like ECKO said, it's probably a tad warmer in there (just cuz there's no air movement to be cooling it off) ...
"reptile carpet" ~ you mean that green "astro-turf" stuff???
great stuff! i used it ALOT when iZ was smaller and had an enclosure instead of a room ...
2 things ~ if you go to some place like Menard's, you can get a *bunch* of it cut from the giant roll and save $ in the long run (it's the same thing!!) ... by getting a "big chunk", you have some "spares" to use ~ makes cleaning SO much easier! just remove the dirty one, put in a clean one, go wash the dirty one .... (etc ad nasuem ...)
thing #2 ~ be careful about the edges fraying!!! dangerous potential for igs to taste/eat and get stuck and/or all sorts of awful things i don't wanna mention ... so watch for and trim any frayed strings!!! better yet, "finish" the edge somehow so it *doesn't* fray ...
*headrubbie* for Hoss!
Bon. + iZ
