In Reply to: We just had a $1,200 accident... posted by Diana on September 06, 2001 at 21:12:32:
...and I'm sure you won't be the last. I've heard it before right here on this board! Anyway, sorry about that, and I don't let my igs anywhere near my equipment. Heat stimulates them to go (whether they are trained or not!) Plus, I think some of them know they are doing something naughty...they like to keep us guessing!
: As some of you know, my iguanas live out at Josh's (boyfriend) metal shop due to lack of space in my small apartment, and also, because I have four cats who I don't fully trust around igs. :) Anyway, it has really worked well for us because this way, we can be with them all day at work, tend to them, feed them several times a day if they want, and take them on walks during sunset. They go on errands with us, and greet customers (scare them away). Out at the shop, they have free range of an ig-proofed room, a few basking spots, uvb lights, and a huge outdoor cage out back for summer sunning. Habib has lived here most of her entire life (she's three years-old now) and Bobbit came to us in February of this year. Things have gone really well with having them here and it's been great for all of us.
: HOWEVER...
: Today, Josh put Bobbit on top of his big 21" computer monitor (somewhere I read that it's bad to let igs near computers for the radiation or something? Is this right? Can't remember where I read that.) and while he was "hanging out" with Josh in the CNC machine room. Well, Bobbit decided to poop right on top of the monitor, and his urates seeped right down into the circut boards of the monitor.
: The monitor is ruined and is in fact, at a monitor repair shop even as I type this tonight. The monitor cost Josh $1,200 in 1998, and if the shop can't repair it, we found out that he can replace it for "only" around $800.00 now. (Luckily the prices for monitors have come down since 1998.)
: Needless to say, Bobbit is grounded from anyting having to do with computers in the future...
: Just thought I'd tell all of you NOT to let your igs hang out with you on the monitor. You may say, "But MY iguana is toilet trained." Yeah, so is Bobbit. (He hardly ever has an accident on the floor, let alone one on top of a thousand dollar surface.) It's been a tense one around here today.
: Josh handled it pretty well (only one very loud little #@%^*#!) and he even let Bobbit go with us to the monitor repair shop and to Sonic burger for dinner. (Bobbit LOVES to ride in the car.)
: Here's to hoping the monitor repair-man can fix it...we'll know by tomorrow.
: Diana~~~Thanks for letting me vent!
